Recognition of Prior Learning/Course Credit
RPL / Course credit
Traintech 2000 has written procedures outlining how and when they grant and record course credit. SEE ATTACHMENT 12 and the TRAINTECH Policies and Procedures Manual.- Students are required to show they accept the course credit by either signing or otherwise accepting (for example, by ticking a box) the course credit granted.
- A copy of the student’s acceptance of course credit must be placed on the student’s file.
If the registered provider grants the student course credit which leads to a shortening of the student’s course, the registered provider must: - if the course credit is granted before the student visa grant, indicate the actual net course duration (as reduced by course credit) in the confirmation of enrolment issued for that student for that course; or
- if the course credit is granted after the student visa grant, report the change of course duration via PRISMS under section 19 of the ESOS Act.
- Prior to a student’s visa being granted, the provider must indicate the actual net course duration on the CoE. This will allow DIAC to grant a visa with duration that reflects the actual course length.
- At any time after a student has been granted a student visa, any change in course duration due to the granting of credit must be reported via PRISMS under Section 19 of the ESOS Act. Under Section 19, this must be done within 14 days after the event as specified by the Act.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is about recognition of a student’s competencies that he/she may have already attained in some or all of the learning outcomes of the modules in his or her course. As long as evidence is supplied, recognition is given by the College regardless of where or how the learning was acquired. Therefore, the student may be able to shorten his or her course, or elect to take higher level modules, if available.
RPL application charge of $250 and a Fee of $100 per unit of study apply.
Payment is required along with a completed RPL assessment application form. Once you have been notified that you have been granted RPL or course Credit, you will be required to sign a record of the credit granted and this will be placed on your student file.
Candidates must submit the following material with their RPL application form:
- Certified copies of academic transcripts in English detailing results obtained and period of study
- Certified copy of curriculum in English detailing subject/unit content and hours of study for each subject/unit
- Letters certifying employment experience, if applicable, detailing duties, tasks, responsibilities and work hours.
Mutual Recognition of Qualifications from other RTO’s
Clients with previous study at other Registered Training Organizations within the Australian Quality Training Framework will receive due recognition of their qualifications and competencies. All applications for recognition or credit for previous studies must be supported with full documentation.
The College issuing the credential must be a registered training organization with a State/Territory Recognition Authority.
Credit Transfer
Credit Transfer is a formal arrangement, which recognises block or components of some study/training programs of other Colleges as being equivalent to component units of the Traintech 2000 programs. Credit transfer eliminates the need to repeat studies undertaken elsewhere and also reduce the costs associated with study.
In working out the credit (or exemptions) that should be granted, we examine the subject content of the courses you have studied previously. You need to provide detailed documentation.

Assessment Criteria
The objective is for the student to show that they have achieved the Unit Competencies. Students may be assessed by one or more of the following methods:
- Observation- the completion of a specified task or set of procedures normally performed under close supervision, using a detailed checklist.
- Oral questioning – a response is provided to a series of questions presented in order to demonstrate understanding of principles or reasoning behind the action taken.
- Case study — an opportunity to display problem and decision making skills is provided in a simulated context.
- Multiple choice – a question or incomplete statement followed by several options (usually 4-5) from which the student selects the appropriate answer/s.
- Written short answer – a written response item consisting of a question/s with answers of a single word, a few words, a sentence, or a paragraph.
- Project – an exercise or investigation based on real life situation, generally requiring a significant part of the work being carried out without supervision, and involving the completion of a project report.
- Or any other method outlined in the student information book
Students will be advised of the assessment methodology before training commences.
